Issuance of Driving License to  Sri Lankans Living Abroad (Revised)

The Department of Motor Traffic of Sri Lanka has revised the existing guidelines on the issuance of a driving license for Sri Lankans living abroad.

-Applicants of new driving license/upgrading existing license to include other categories of vehicles are required to visit the Department of Motor Traffic located at Werahera or a District Office of the Department.

-Applicable charges for the services provided by Sri Lanka Missions abroad have also been revised. The details of the charges are given below:

 Renewal of Driving License
  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2
  2. Current Driving License
  3. Medical certificate obtained from a recognized medical institution in Kenya
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card (not compulsory if NIC no. is mentioned in the Passport)
  6. Valid status in Kenya (Work Permit/Study Permit / Visa)
  7. Two Black and White Passport Size Photographs (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm)  on white background
  8. Cash US$115/-(late fee charges of US$10/- applicable per each lapsed year)
Duplicate of a Driving License
  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2
  2. Copy of the complaint made to the nearest Police Station or original deformed or blurred  Driving License
  3. Medical certificate obtained from a recognized medical institution in Kenya (Medical certificate is compulsory for Heavy Vehicles Licenses ( Motor Coach, Lorry etc.) Medical Certificate is optional for Light Vehicle Licenses
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card (not compulsory if NIC no. is mentioned in the Passport)
  6. Status in Kenya (Work Permit/Study Permit / Visa)
  7. Two Black and White Passport size Photographs (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm)  on white background
  8. Cash:115/-US$
Change of Personal Details of the Driving License
  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2
  2. Current Driving License
  3. Evidence for the changes (Marriage Certificate/ Birth Certificate /Divorce Certificate/ documents to prove the changes of residential address etc.)
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card (not compulsory if the NIC number is mentioned in the Passport)
  6. Valid status in Kenya (Work Permit/Study Permit / Visa)
  7. Two Black and White Passport size Photographs (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm) on white background
  8. Cash: US$ 115/-
